Assisted Living Offers the Care You Need For the Life You Want
Assisted living provides a combination of residential housing, personalized supportive services and healthcare, but it does not usually include skilled nursing care. It is intended for adults who may require help with activities of daily living such as meals, housecleaning, bathing, dressing and/or medication reminders. Most allow their residents to stay as independent as possible, having the security of having assistance available on a 24 hour basis. They are regulated and licensed at the state level.
Residents live in apartment-style units and the larger buildings usually contain communal dining rooms, living areas and activities rooms. The smaller homes or residential care homes in the community are appropriate and comfortable for a senior who wants to feel like they are in their own home. Some residents may not want the all day activities that the larger communities have to offer, but know that someone is always available if they need assistance.
Assisted living facilities generally provide a wide variety of social and leisure activities. Physical, occupational and speech therapies may be available on an as-needed basis through private pay or insurance.
A very select number of these facilities have 24 hour nursing, making extra care available for residents with diabetic and other medical needs. This care is restricted by state assisted living regulations, but is a nice option for a resident not requiring extensive nursing home care. Several options are available: freestanding larger facilities, residential homes and personal care boarding homes, or continuum of care facilities.
Financially, the cost of assisted living varies according to the location, the size of the apartment and the care services included. The majority of assisted living residents pay privately, but there are a very few options available to receive assistance, if qualified. After we meet with you and your loved ones, we can help determine which community would best meet your personal, medical, financial and social needs.
